Dead
ManÍs Hand
Two pair, aces and eights. So called because it was the hand Wild Bill Hickok
was holding when he was shot to death.
Dead Money
1. Money contributed to a pot by a player no longer in the pot.
2. A player in a tournament who has no realistic chance of winning.
DealerÍs Choice
A rule that permits the dealer to decide which game to be played that hand.
Deuce
A two.
Dog
Shortened form of "underdog."
Dominated Hand
A hand that will almost always lose to a better hand that people usually play.
For instance, K-J is "dominated" by A-K.
Door Card
A playerÍs first upcard in Stud games.
Double Belly Buster
A two way inside straight draw. E.g. you hold 7-9 and the flop is 5-8-J. You
can make a straight with a 6 or a 10.
Draw
To discard a number of cards and have dealt an equal number of replacements.
Drawing Dead
Trying to make a hand that, even if made, will not win the pot. E.g. drawing
to a flush when your opponent already has a full house.
Early Position
Being one of the first players to act in a betting round.
Family Pot
A pot in which all (or almost all) of the players call before the flop.
Fast Play
To play a hand aggressively, betting and raising as much as possible.
Fill Up
To make a full house.
Fish
A poor player.
Floorman
Often shortened to “floor”. The casino representative in charge of
a card room or a section of a card room.
Flop
The first three community cards, put out face up, all together.
Flush
Five cards of the same suit.
Fold
To decline to call a bet, thus dropping out of the hand.
Free Card
A card dealt after all players checked in a betting round.
Freeroll
A tournament that costs nothing to enter.
Freezeout
A tournament that does not permit re-buys. Once a player loses all their chips
then they are eliminated.
Full Boat
Slang for full house.
Full House
Three of a kind and a pair. |
