Gutshot
Straight
A straight filled "inside." If you have 9-8, the flop comes 7-5-2,
and the turn is the 6, you've made your gutshot straight.
Heads-Up
To play a single opponent.
High - Low
A form of poker in which the pot is split equally between the best high hand
and the best low hand.
Hole Cards
The face down cards dealt to each player.
Hook
A jack. So called because the J resembles a hook.
House
1. The establishment running the game.
2. A shortened term for full house.
Implied Odds
A refinement to pot odds which includes the money that is not yet in the pot,
but is expected to be later.
Jam
A pot where several players are betting and raising.
Joker
Some games use the joker as a wild card.
Kicker
An unpaired card used to determine the better of two near-equivalent hands. E.g.
you have A-K and your opponent has A-Q. If the flop has an ace in it, you both
have a pair of aces, but you have a king kicker. Kickers can be vitally important
in hold'em.
Lady
A queen.
Late Position
Being one of the last players to act in a betting round.
Limit
In a limit or fixed limit game as it is sometimes called the amount players can
bet on each betting round is fixed and cannot be varied.
Limp
Slang for call.
Live CardS
In stud games, cards that have not been exposed.
Lady
A queen.
Live One
A bad player.
Lock
A hand that cannot be beaten. Also called the nuts.
Loose
To play more hands than the norm. |
